Grow Green Projects

Every year, Sunset Zoo Trust participates in the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation Grow Green Day, which encourages Manhattan area residents to donate to their favorite charities. Donations to Sunset Zoo Trust during Grow Green are used for improvements at Sunset Zoo. Among recent projects are:

The Chimpanzee Play Area

This project restored the activity area of the chimpanzee outdoor habitat, using donated materials secured by the Trust for a climbing and play area.

The Pavilion Stonework

This project completed in 2025 restored the stonework supporting the pavilion, which is the covered area located next to the children’s playground. The pavilion was dedicated by the Sertoma Club in 1954 and is a gathering place for groups at Sunset Zoo.
